Alta Devices and C-Astral announced that Alta’s world-record-breaking solar technology is going to be powering C-Astral’s next generation of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
Alta devices produces the world’s thinnest, lightest, and most efficient single and dual junction solar material in the world. When incorporated into C-Astral’s newest UAV, this technology was able to extend the endurance flight time of the aircraft by two hours, while adding less than two ounces of weight. Additionally, because Alta’s solar material is flexible it was easily integrated into the C-Astral airframe without altering its aerodynamic profile. C-Astral’s co-founder Marko Peljhan has this to say about solar in the UAV market, “From the time of our founding, we have known that solar technology is useful for extending flight times and have continuously pursued it. Alta’s solar technology is the only mature option on the market that allows us to achieve extended flight times without compromising our high performance aircraft design.”
Moving forward, you can expect to see more exciting news coming out of both companies. As Alta Chief Marketing Officer Rich Kapusta said of C-Astral “C-Astral has an incredible track record of innovation. There are very few companies with the deep expertise required to develop this type of aircraft, and we are extremely proud to be working with them on this endeavor.”
