Sr. Buyer Capital Equipment

Reports To: Director, Supply Chain Management

Job Summary: The Sr. Buyer Capital Equipment will have proven experience in managing complex capital buying projects within a manufacturing environment and will provide purchasing leadership for the procurement of capital equipment. This individual will play an integral role from intent to purchase through delivery. This includes negotiation of new agreements and implementation/management of existing agreements. The Sr. Buyer Capital Equipment will work with suppliers and internal stakeholders to identify solutions that support operational requirements while reducing Total Cost of Ownership.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Participate in the execution of capital purchasing strategies as defined by the Alta Devices leadership team
  • Be a valuable sought after partner for risk management, sourcing options and opportunities for Alta Devices
  • Conduct commercial negotiations and commercial bid comparison
  • Implements purchase contracts that comply with company and government regulations
  • Preparation and issuance of purchase orders and revisions
  • Assures that the vendor will deliver on schedule, at the negotiated price, and meets all quality specifications
  • Ensure the proactive evaluation of supplier performance is monitored and managed, in part, by conducting supplier business reviews and issuing supplier scorecards
  • Maintain and report to executive team spend and commitment timing
  • Manage freight forwarders to ensure receipt of materials and compliance with user requests, quantity, specifications, etc.
  • Assists Finance/Accounting departments in resolving issues pertaining to monthly statements, open receivables, and payables
  • Provide financial reporting on buying activities and track and report on delivery planning of equipment and materials to support project timelines and plans.

Requirements:

  • BS/BA Degree
  • CPM or similar certification desired but not required
  • 7-10 Years’ experience in capital equipment procurement including a strong competency in strategic sourcing

Director Quality Management

Job Summary: The Director of Quality Assurance position is responsible for establishing a corporate quality assurance system and team that promotes customer satisfaction that positively impacts the reputation and financial performance of Alta Devices. This position is the Champion for continuous improvement efforts, defect reduction initiatives, the administration of a document control system and the establishment of an effective Quality Management System (QMS).

Job Duties:

  • Initiates and implements quality improvement activities as appropriate (e.g., Kaizen, Six Sigma) to raise the performance of the company’s product lines.
  • Educates and trains employees as to their impact in the quality management system.
  • Develops, implements, manages and integrates a QMS for manufacturing plants.
  • Serves as the primary quality control resource for problem identification, resolution, loss reporting and continuous improvement.
  • Manages quality control personnel on a day-to-day basis.

Required Education and Experience

Engineer, Design and Simulation Modeling

Reports To: Sr. Engineering Manager, MOCVD

Job Summary: The qualified candidate will perform design analysis for MOCVD hardware and process film development. Responsible for understanding key concepts from Sr. Process Scientists and engineers in the fields of CFD, thermal/physical stress, heat transfer, and mechanical design as it relates to gas distribution, thermal uniformity for the application of epitaxial film growth on wafers. Key responsibilities in performing simulation activities, writing reports, holding technical reviews to disclose results and make recommendations to improve hardware design and/or process optimization.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Aid and assist senior engineering staff with cost effective design path alternatives.
  • Prepare detailed reports for engineering to support all phases of development.
  • Assist in design and knowledge transfer to others via written reports, simulation reviews, or other methods.

Education and Experience

Equipment Engineer – Junior Level

Reports To: Equipment Engineering Manager

Job Summary: Primary responsibility is designing, planning, helping with procurement and ensuring the performance of the assigned tools for Alta’s manufacturing line.

Specific Job Responsibilities

  • Define and document all assigned tool specifications according to Alta cell and module in-line testing needs
  • Assist with equipment procurement and supplier selections through analysis of specifications, performance and cost
  • Work with supplier(s) to ensure proper equipment design and build
  • Plan, manage and execute all assigned equipment installations and upgrades to lab and/or manufacturing equipment
  • Ensure all assigned equipment meets safety requirements
  • Qualify test equipment for baseline operation
  • Determine necessary tooling and measurement equipment to properly maintain assigned equipment in your area of responsibility
  • Create spare parts lists and determine correct stocking levels to maximize service level and inventory turns
  • Create facilities drawings in CAD for work with the architects and construction firms.

  • Analyze equipment performance metrics (MTBF, uptime, MTTR, etc.) to determine areas for improvement to increase throughput and yield
  • Interact with vendors and facility personnel to perform upgrade and/or retrofits
  • Responsible for continuous yield and quality improvements as well as cost and scrap reduction support

Facility Engineer/Facilities Engineering Process Tool Installation Lead

Alta Devices - Sunnyvale, CA (San Francisco Bay Area)

Reports To: Senior Project Manager

Job Summary: The primary role for this person is to assure on-time installation and commissioning of thin film process tools and ancillary equipment utilizing a high level of legacy experience with thin film specific tool sets. The candidate will be required to step into a fast track factory expansion project and have a complete understanding of the requirements for facilitization of CVD, CMP, Wet Etch, Sputter, and all related, measurement and metrology, tools and related abatement equipment. An extremely high level of verbal communication skill is a must.

Job Duties:

Engineering

  • Conduct process service connection definition meetings with process and tool owners
  • Maintain a factory wide process service connection and utility usage and consumption database
  • Work with Alta Devices Production Engineers to optimize equipment layout and infrastructure support service connections to maintain F and H -occupancy requirements.
  • Expand tool and process owners designs into RFQ’s to provide direction for budgets and costing to Architects, MEP,s and other contractors, as needed for specific tool installation.
  • Assist Project Lead with building project award and scheduling matrix.
  • With project managers, analyze costs, schedules, environmental, and safety impacts to enable roadmap for the ultimate strategy to completing specific thin film tool installations.
  • Proactively during all phases of installation and commissioning make recommendations to team to add value and minimize risk to installation and related MEP, General Construction projects.
  • Provide on the floor supervision during tool installation project to MEP, GC tradespersons, and sub-tier contractors and material-men as needed.
  • Provide facility interface pivot with Alta Equipment Engineering, EHS, and process and tool owners throughout installation and related construction projects.
  • Document all phases of a project, (i.e., scope of work, schedule, fiscal tracking, change orders, etc.)
  • Conduct project review meetings.
  • When project is underway, be on point for all of the on the manufacturing floor contact to all regulatory inspectors as needed.
  • Assure quality and workmanship of all contractor work is to accepted trade best practice and Alta Device standard.
  • Provide clear concise direction to Alta Facility Planner of any and all potential for deviation to installation project plan.
  • Provide project closeout documentation, and lead handoff and facility qualification effort in concert with process/production engineering.

Background Requirements:

A BS or MS Mechanical Engineering degree, or equivalent knowledge and experience. A minimum of 10 years experience in the semiconductor-manufacturing and/or solar industry, and 5 years of project management construction management expertise with particular focus on manufacturing support. Must have demonstrated advanced capabilities with MS Project, and Office Suite of tools.

Sr. Facilities Technician

Reports To: Facilities Manager

Job Summary: The purpose of this position is to support the facility operations in a lead role in the installing, maintaining, or monitoring of the various plant systems critical to the operation of the facility and to ensure the company maintains compliance with all applicable environmental, health and safety rules and regulations.

Specific Job Responsibilities:

  • To perform the assigned duties and task in compliance with the Alta policies and procedures to ensure the safety and health of the employees and the environment.
  • Respond to service requests and perform a variety of tasks as required to resolve facility-related problems at a journeyman skill level.
  • Assist in the installation of the various facility equipment and systems.
  • Monitor, collect, and analyze data to track the performance of the various systems to ensure they are operating within the specified range.
  • Support the preventative maintenance program by performing maintenance and assist in the troubleshooting any breakdowns.
  • Must be capable of performing in at least one of the following areas at a journeyman level:

    • BMS – Build Management System - maintain and modify facility systems/equipment through building software program.
    • HVAC - Install, modify, repair and maintain the facility heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.
    • GENERAL CONSTRUCTION - Perform carpentry work in remodeling the facility (i.e. framing, installing dry wall, installing doors).
    • ELECTRICAL - Install, troubleshoot, balance, or repair the transformers, electrical motors, panel and other electrical units. Install the wiring, conduit, electrical equipment, fixtures and accessories installation.
    • PLUMBING - install and repair the plant plumbing systems and fixtures.
    • DI WATER - maintain and operate the DI water facility.
    • Make decisions in emergency situations
    • Schedule and prioritize work effectively

Qualifications:

A technical certification required with preferred 10 or more years of experience in industry and in facilities. Must be a journeyman in one area and capable of performing a variety of assignments. Shall be proficient in reading maintenance, manuals, blueprints and schematics. A Facility Technician shall also:

  • Have a strong working knowledge in all aspects of a defined plant system.
  • Attend trade courses (.i.e., Air Conditioning, electrical fundamentals, PLC training).
  • Have a good working knowledge of Environmental, Health and Safety Codes and Regulations.
  • Have computer skills necessary to produce reports, maintain PM program, generate/track POs, etc.

Integration Yield Engineer

Reports To: Manager, Baseline Process and Yield

Job Summary: The Integration Yield Engineer will be a key member of a cross-functional team working to ensure baseline yield targets are achieved and sustained. Main duties will include, but not be limited to, analyzing both process and electrical data, driving FA on failing parts, analyzing defect and failure modes, identifying baseline yield/performance improvement opportunities, and coordinating activities for implementation of those improvement opportunities into the baseline process. Will also be expected to help develop yield analysis tools, systems, and metrics to help streamline analysis and yield improvement activities.

Job Duties:

  • Analyze actual and theoretical defect mechanisms
  • Work with development team to eliminate potential yield loss activities from the process
  • Develop and implement yield screen techniques and data feedback methodologies

  • 5-10 yrs. experience in yield analysis of semiconductor processing and manufacturing

IT Systems Applications Engineer

Reports To: CFO

Job Summary: This position will oversee the development and delivery of an information systems strategy for supporting enterprise-wide financial, sales and field operations, manufacturing, human resources, customer services, engineering, project tracking, etc. This will include planning, organizing, and implementing the application activities of the information services to support the global Alta Devices.

Specific Job Responsibilities

  • This position will significantly interact with corporate executives and coordinate information systems strategy consistent with the corporation’s strategy. This position will also work directly with various Corporate Headquarters staff in the coordination of Information system strategy between various Alta Devices functional units and geographies, including sales organizations, operations, manufacturing, corporate finance and human resources.
  • Manage enterprise wide delivery of application services including ERP, Mfg MES, HRIS, and engineering. This will include but is not limited to project definition, scope, and return on investment analysis and industry trend analysis.
  • Prepare and submit plans and budgets for department needs.
  • Monitor performance against approved plans. Prepare and submit status reports to the CFO.
  • Lead in the selection of information technology application systems and technologies overseeing the development of new systems and processes to meet the needs of the global corporation.
  • Support the development of policies and procedures that will guide departmental operations.
  • Ensure IT projects are completed on time and are properly documented.
  • Determine level and breadth of Information System/database access for the various departments of the company.

Qualifications

Manufacturing Engineer

Job Summary: Responsible for all the technical and quality aspects of one or several processes in Alta Devices’s Pilot Line. Support to the manufacturing and assembly operations and to the process development for new products and new manufacturing technologies.

Job Duties:

  • Develop and maintain robust processes in one or several of the following process areas:
    • GaAs and compounds wafer cleaning, etching and polishing
    • Thin film deposition
    • Solar cell patterning and metallization
    • Solar cell and module assembly, encapsulation and testing
  • Support to manufacturing operations, process troubleshooting, documentation of operation procedures and materials traceability
  • Determine process windows and sensitivities
  • Analyze data to monitor, control and improve processes running in production. Establish metrology requirements for process control
  • Team with Process and Yield Engineers to identify and address process interactions, ensuring the compatibility of process methods
  • Implementation of processes for high volume manufacturing. Partner with hardware design engineers and vendors to optimize process performance and define tool specifications

Reports To: Manufacturing Supervisor

Job Summary: This position is a hands-on operating position with direct accountability for production quality and output. Position will require precise execution of detailed operating procedures as well as a high degree of analytical capability to detect process deviations. Work will be performed in a clean room and will involve following safe handling and storage of hazardous chemicals. Some, if not all, activities will require different degrees of repetitive motion. This position will report directly to a first line supervisor, and requires a high degree of interaction with engineers. The Manufacturing Technician must have the flexibility to move to any shift, including the compressed work schedule, as required by the needs of the company.

Job Duties:

  • Maintain a clean and safe work area and follow all safety guidelines and report unsafe conditions to supervisor
  • Interact closely with engineers to support engineering activities
  • Operate and execute process steps using a mix of processing equipment, manual processing and metrology tools
  • Execute procedures as trained; provide critical feedback to engineering on process deviations
  • First level maintenance and troubleshooting as required depending on the process equipment assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Associate Degree or equivalent
  • At least 5 years experience in semiconductor processing and assembly; and proven competency in laboratory or clean-room environment
  • Experience with and capable of wet chemical processing involving hazardous chemicals including HF, Sulfuric acids
  • Experience with the operation of related equipment and performance of PM's. Experience with minor equipment maintenance of vacuum tools is preferred
  • Good understanding of safety protocol working with and around toxic/hazardous materials
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills with the ability to follow non-standard procedures
  • Ability to follow instructions; document and report hardware issues
  • Basic computer skills including familiarity with windows-based programs such as Microsoft productivity tools (e.g., Excel, Word). Working knowledge of manufacturing systems and data entry and/or collection from such systems is preferred
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal) as you will be working in a team environment that is very data-driven
  • Ability to function with a high degree of flexibility and train across multiple tasks

MES & CIM System Architect and Project Manager

Job Summary: Alta Devices is a Solar Cell manufacturing company with complex system requirements necessary to support expanding Pilot Line operations. This is a lead engineering/project management position with full accountability for the design, implementation, and operation of Alta’s Manufacturing Execution System (MES). The job scope will require hands on engineering to setup, deploy and maintain the system. In addition this role will support the integration of the MES with other CIM systems. Job Duties:

MES Architect and Project Management

  • Define options and propose an MES solution for implementation into Alta’s pilot line facility. Consideration must be given to extendibility to Alta’s future factories.
  • Set up and make operational the agreed MES solution.
  • Develop a system architecture that allows for seamless integration with other systems as the functional needs of the user evolve.
  • Support Operations with production reports and information extraction from the MES
  • Support MES integration with ERP, ADM, SPC and other internal Alta systems.
  • Key contributor in the decision process for enhancements and customization of the MES.

The engineer will work with team members who are responsible for previous and subsequent processing steps to determine the specifications of the tool. The design work will include complete tool development from identification of needs, to concept design, prototyping, and final manufacturing tool design including mechanical, electrical and software. Experience and exposure to other equipment platforms related to automation, assembly and test is an advantage.

  • Determination of tool specification required for this particular process step
  • Design of the tool, from system and software architecture to detail drawings

Job Summary: Hands on position with a mix of sales, marketing, and customer engineering responsibilities. Will own the sales funnel database/CRM tool and will involve interaction with customers, lead qualification, marketing automation, customer development, and systems engineering.

Alta Devices has embraced Fast-Time-to-Market methods and tools to facilitate the completion of a highly-technical company-wide project that will take 18-24 months to complete. The Project Coordinator (PC) will facilitate the day-to-day operations of this process, coordinating with engineers, and informing strategies for advancing and accelerating completion of the project. The PC will collect data via regular and rigorous progress meetings with engineers and will facilitate the development of immediate action plans to accelerate critical path tasks. This resourceful, self-starter will be expected to translate engineering discussions into working project plans that will be refined and tuned with both the engineering and management teams. The Project Coordinator will be a key participant in the regular interaction between the project management team and will make presentations to senior management.

As the owner of project plan the Project Coordinator will develop the initial schedules, refine the schedule as needed, add to the schedule as progress dictates, communicate progress/changes to the milestone objectives, identify potential “blocking” issues, and coordinate all activities with engineering needed to maintain the schedule. While this is an individual contributor position with high-visibility throughout the company, the successful candidate will need to develop a teamwork approach with the Project Manager and the broader engineering team.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelors degree in a scientific, engineering, or other technical field is required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to distill information from detailed engineering discussions and the ask relevant questions needed to translate these discussion into project schedules
  • Experience working directly with engineers and individuals with strong personalities
  • High degree of individual accountability along with being a team player
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Project, Excel, and Word – project specific training will be provided
  • 3 – 5 years of small company work experience working in a project management / project coordinator capacity
  • Detail oriented and disciplined

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in a scientific, engineering, or other technical field preferred
  • Exposure to semiconductor or solar manufacturing processes
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Industrial engineering experience or background
  • Deep hands on experience with project management software tools
